Yoga for Dancers is beyond humbled and honored to announce our first recipient of the Micro Loans for Dancers Initiative:
KIERA BANKS of CHICAGO, IL!!!
Kiera submitted an application requesting funding to finish out her schooling at Columbia College in Chicago. She wrote, "this loan would help my career because it would allow me to continue to get the necessary tools to develop as a well rounded dancer. I know that I have the potential to follow my dreams and all I need is a push in the right direction." Because this Yoga for Dancers' micro loan initiative is founded on community uplift and social engagement within our arts community, when Kiera said, "paying to forward to me is seeing little tan and brown skinned kids being able to realize that they can be whatever they want even if it means being a singer, musician, or dancer. A lot of these kids grow up just how I did, with no formal training in the arts because there are no programs in their neighborhoods or even in the schools anymore. Paying it forward to me is setting the future generations up for greatness and giving them the necessary tools to thrive," we knew that Kiera had to be the first recipient within our community.
Kiera represents THE spirit of this initiative, and it is Yoga for Dancers' profound honor to support this generation's artistic voices, community leaders, and vanguards of their own extraordinary and unique futures, trajectories that will inevitably ripple through the world one big dream dreamt into reality at a time.
Thank you, Kiera, for trusting us with your dreams! You never know when one small act can change the trajectory of someone's entire life. Kiera's essay did that for mine.
