Yoga for Dancers is honored to award the next Micro Loans for Dancers grant to Kara Edwards of New York City!
As a dancer and dance teacher, Kara puts not only her heart and soul into her craft but also her ligaments and tendons. While teaching, Kara incurred an injury that turned into surgery that turned into months of recovery that resulted in piles of bills and piled on stress. Any health professional knows that stress is the enemy of recovery, so the ability to offer support in some small way to such an extraordinary spirit was not only a possibility but a necessity.
Through Hot 8 Yoga's New Year's Eve donation-based class, Yoga for Dancers raised $750 for Kara to use toward medical bills and continued recovery. It seems a small act but, in a interview with spiritual leader, Eckhart Tolle, Mallika Chopra reflected a greater wisdom. When Mallika had said that, sometimes, she feels like just a soccer mom taking her kids from one thing to another, Eckhart had replied, "it is ordinary people doing extraordinary things that will raise the frequency of this planet."
Often, I ask myself what my impact on this planet is. Supporting dancers, artists, and beautiful-in-their-soul folks in their ascent toward their greatest dreams is my heart's answer every single time.
#MLK I hope we're making you proud.
